The history of the Kanchipattu saree dates back over 400 years, tracing its origins to the reign of the Chola dynasty in the 17th century. It is believed that the craft of weaving silk sarees was introduced to Kanchipuram by Hindu silk weavers who migrated from the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.
